All kids enjoy going to summer camp and having the chance to participate in the fun activities that happen during a camping session. At Elks Camp Grassick, we strive to provide fun opportunities for our campers to enjoy activities such as crafts, recreational games, archery, BB guns, kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, fishing and plenty of time spent at the waterfront on the beach, or in the water swimming and going for boat rides!
Cabin groups attend rec sessions throughout the day. In one of the rec classes, campers participate in games such as kickball, soccer, flag football, relay races, obstacle courses, basketball and other activities. This provides an opportunity to work on gross motor skills while also practicing good sportsmanship, turn taking, following directions and many other valuable skills. Another rec class offers activities such as archery, BB guns, fishing and pontoon rides.
Campers attend a craft class each day and are able to take their projects home at the end of their session. Crafts include clay projects, bead work, painting, drawing, tie-dye, and many other fun activities. Crafts time also provides a chance for campers to work and increase their fine motor skills, as well as their listening, following directions, and communication skills in a fun environment.
During our 2 week and 3 week therapy camps, campers will have one class a day at waterfront with their cabin, where they will work on general swimming skills and play games. During all of our camp sessions, there will be general swim time in the afternoon where all of the campers can enjoy time sitting on the beach, swimming in the water, and/or going for boat rides on our canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats.
During all of our camp sessions, there is an opportunity for boat rides on the pontoon! It is a highlight for all of our campers.
Archery is a new addition to Camp Grassick, made possible by a grant from the National Archery in the Schools Program. Our archery instructor is trained in teaching archery to students. Campers and staff must follow safety procedures as they learn proper shooting form as well as how to care for equipment.
Campers receive instruction in safe target shooting using BB guns. The campers enjoy this activity, especially when a little friendly competition is involved.
Fishing is often a part of our Recreation time, but campers have recently taken up fishing during free times, on early mornings, or later in the evening with their counselors. The number one fish caught on our side of Lake Isabel are Northerns!
Boating is offered during our general swim times when campers and staff can get out and explore the lake with friends!
Paddle boating is a good small group activity for campers. Kayaks and canoes offer a new experience for many. It is a fun way to get out onto Lake Isabel while learning a new skill.
Each evening, campers and staff participate in a variety of activities: hay rides, evening swims, team building activities, paint your counselor, Tumbl Trak, all camp rec games, banquets, talent shows, dances, campfires, movies, church and other fun things!
